Mr. Farrar has also lectured frequently on trial advocacy, including lectures at the Department of Justice School for New Assistant U.S. Attorneys, the FBI Academy, and Nova University. Both Marsha Lyons and Douglas Lyons were inducted into the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates in 1990 and selected by fellow Florida attorneys to be included in Leading American Attorneys, which includes the top 5 per cent of attorneys in Florida. Ms. Lyons is the past president of the Tallahassee Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and both she and Mr. Lyons have served as the Chapter Representative to the National Board. Lyons & Farrar also handles appeals in both state and federal courts of both civil and criminal proceedings. Mr. Lyons has spent much of the last two decades developing expertise in the field of class action litigation. In doing so he has brought cases on behalf of numerous individuals who have been harmed by various corporations and whose claims are generally not large enough to handle individually. These cases have included actions against banks, real estate development companies, insurance companies, automobile dealers and cruise lines, among others. The firm's founders have substantial experience in the investigation and handling of all types of fraudulent practices including fraud against financial institutions, insurance companies, governmental entities, as well as medicare, social security, tax, securities and commodities fraud. Additionally, Douglas Lyons has been actively involved in numerous individual and class action fraud cases, the most notable of which were claims against General Development Corporation, one of Florida's largest land developers. The actions against General Development revealed that it was involved in a sophisticated massive fraudulent land sale scheme. The cases against General Development Corporation resulted in recovery for over three hundred thousand house and lot purchasers. Since the foundation of the firm both Ms. Lyons and Mr. Farrar have been appointed by federal court judges on various occasions to act as Receivers and/or Counsel to the Receiver in numerous Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Securities Exchange Commission cases. As a result of these appointments, the firm has developed an expertise in tracing and marshaling assets, analyzing claims, disposing of assets, and distributing funds. The extensive criminal prosecution background of both Mr. Farrar and Ms. Lyons has provided them with a special expertise in the representation of corporations, executives and business persons involved in criminal or potential criminal investigations or prosecutions.
