Litigation for Equality in Florida Property Taxation

A good idea gone bad - Florida’s SOHA -(“Save Our Homes Amendment”) ad valorem tax system, while well intended, has had very unfair consequences for new Florida homesteaders and non-resident homeowners alike. We are committed to establashing equality in Florida property taxes. The passage of Amendment I has provided an economic band-aid for a problem that requires major surgery. In fact the passage of Amendment I with its portability feature aggravates the existing gross inequity created by SOHA by perpetuating and extending such inequities directly into the market place. Litigation appears to be the only way to return our state to an ad valorem tax system founded on principles of fairness and equality. This Web Site is designed to provide current information on what is happening in our litigation. The sponsors to this Web Site are all attorneys representing plaintiffs in litigation challenging SOHA and Amendment I. Citizens of FLorida and the United States are entitled under both our state and federal consitutions to equal treatment under the law. The goal of these suits is to make that guarantee of equality a reality in Florida property taxation.
